Warwickshire need just four points to secure the LV County Championship Division Two title but will be without New Zealand seamer Chris Martin against Glamorgan at Edgbaston.
Martin misses the game due to a persistent hamstring injury. However, Neil Carter has recovered from the stiff back which prevented him from playing at Chelmsford and is named in a 14-man squad.
James Anyon comes into contention after impressing in the second XI, but then suffering an ankle injury which scuppered his chances of regular first-team cricket. Andrew Miller could come in for his first game after also being included.
Director of coaching Ashley Giles said: “It is great to come back to Edgbaston in such a strong position and to complete the season as Division Two champions will finish what has been a solid championship campaign. To finish unbeaten in this competition would be an impressive feat for the lads.”
His words are echoed by leg-spinner Ian Salisbury, who has had a fantastic season for Warwickshire after joining the club in the winter.
“We’re unbeaten in 15 matches, which really reflects how hard we are to beat when our backs are against the wall,” Salisbury said.
“One thing we haven’t done so far is win at home. We’ve drawn every championship game at Edgbaston, and it’s a great incentive to be able to beat Glamorgan.
“We’re realistic about where we are though. Either way we’ll be 10th or 11th in the championship at the end of the match, so there’s room for improvement.
“All we’re thinking about is those four points to win the division, and beat Worcestershire, who have also been very strong.”
Ben Wright could make his first championship appearance of 2008 as Glamorgan bid to avoid the wooden spoon with a long-awaited win at Edgbaston.
The Welsh county have not won a championship match in Birmingham for 20 years, when Steve Watkin took 8-59 to set up a slender four-run victory.
Wright has played five NatWest Pro40 matches this season and is added to a 13-man squad along with all-rounder Ryan Watkins.
Former England seamer Alex Wharf played in the Pro40 promotion/relegation play-off against Worcestershire Royals, but he is omitted from the final first-class match of the season.
Jason Gillespie is expected to come through a hamstring problem, but England Under-19 bowler James Harris remains sidelined with ongoing back and ankle injuries.
Glamorgan climbed off the foot of Division Two with their third championship victory of the season, a 10-wicket win over Leicestershire last week.
They are 18 points ahead of bottom Gloucestershire, and one point in front of Leicestershire.
