Tanvir set for longer absence
Worcestershire will be without Sohail Tanvir’s services for half of their Friends Life t20 Midlands/Wales/West Group campaign.
The left-arm seamer was originally due to arrive at New Road ahead of last night’s clash with Warwickshire.
Yet following an injury to Nasir Jamshed, he remained with Pakistan for their one-day international series against Sri Lanka having partaken in the Twenty20 rubber.
Worcestershire were hoping Tanvir would subsequently arrive early next week, but it has emerged the 27-year-old will have to travel back to Pakistan to obtain a Visa before heading to England.
Chief executive David Leatherdale said: “Changes to the Visa licensing regulations for overseas players meant that Sohail was unable to complete the Visa process before leaving for Sri Lanka some three weeks ago.
“After an unexpected extended stay with the Pakistan national team for the one-day international matches, it was hoped that the final part of Sohail’s application to visit the UK could be completed while in Sri Lanka.
“Unfortunately, this has not been the case. Sohail will now be travelling back to Pakistan on conclusion of the ODI series on Tuesday to complete the process.
“It is expected that Sohail will then be able to join us early in the week commencing June 25 for our last five important group matches.”
