Guy making progress after brain op

Simon Guy has been understudy to Yorkshire wicketkeeper Gerard Brophy

Yorkshire have announced that wicketkeeper Simon Guy is recovering well from brain surgery.

The 30-year-old underwent surgery on a cerebral abscess last month, but Yorkshire respected the initial wishes of Guy's family for privacy.

Guy, who made his Yorkshire debut in 2000, has been understudy to Gerard Brophy. He made five first-team appearances last season - four in the Twenty20 Cup and one in the NatWest Pro40.

Martyn Moxon, Yorkshire’s director of professional cricket, said: “I am pleased to say that Simon is recovering well, however it will be a number of weeks before he is fit enough to play cricket again.

“The news of Simon’s illness was a real shock, particularly as he is such an incredibly fit individual.

"Simon has been at the club, man and boy, and is a very popular figure at Headingley Carnegie.

“Everyone at the club wishes him and his family well as he continues his recovery and we look forward to seeing him back here with us very soon.”
