Play off at Scarborough

Persistent heavy rain at Scarborough caused play to be called off immediately after an early lunch had been taken on the third day of Yorkshire’s LV County Championship Division One match against Sussex.

The North Marine Road ground was waterlogged by mid-morning, leaving the abandonment decision a mere formality for umpires Jeremy Lloyds and Steve Garratt.

Scarborough rain

The wet weather meant no play was possible at Scarborough on day three of the Division One game

And with the ground already sodden and further bad weather forecast, play on the final day must also be in doubt.

If there is any play, Yorkshire will resume on 133 for seven, still 132 behind Sussex’s first innings score of 265 and 87 runs away from picking up their first batting bonus point.

The next game for Yorkshire is against title challengers Somerset at Scarborough and they close their season with the return match against Sussex at Hove.

Unless they win at least one of these two games they will remain in serious danger of relegation.
