Lancashire’s Steven Crook has left Old Trafford and joined Northamptonshire until the end of the 2007 season in a bid to play more first-team cricket.

The 22-year-old bowling all-rounder has agreed to spend the rest of the season at Wantage Road and then stay with the club on a two-year contract.

Born in Adelaide, Crook is a British passport holder and made his debut for Lancashire in 2003.

He is the younger brother of Lancashire off-spinner Andrew Crook but has decided it is time for a fresh challenge.

He said: “At this time in my career I felt I needed a move to give me opportunities to play more first-team cricket.”

Northamptonshire coach Kepler Wessels added: “Steven will be a more than useful addition to the squad and is another talented young player who shows potential.

“We are determined to build on the successes of this year and develop a team and a squad which is capable of winning in all forms of the game.”
