Derbyshire have reported a huge influx in membership in response to their new signings and improved facilities.

From 2004 to 2006 membership had already increased by almost 35% but it has now increased by 15% on this time last year.

The signing of Australian pair Simon Katich and Ian Harvey has produced unprecedented optimism for the new season.

The signings have been augmented by a pair of state-of-the-art electronic scoreboards and a new media centre where the old scoreboard was.

The area in-front of the Lund Pavilion changing rooms have also been refurbished with a new patio.

Last week the club announced their largest profit in over a decade for the year 2006 with their off-field team now in their new home within The Gateway Centre.

The first team squad are already hard into pre-season training in readiness for the start of the season in April.

Derbyshire chief executive Tom Sears said: “There is a real sense of excitement and anticipation around the Club at the moment and that is showing in the interest in membership.

“We have signed top quality players over the winter, we have a very exciting fixture list for the season and ever improving facilities.

“On the back of our recent financial results there is a very positive atmosphere here at the moment and more and more people want to be a part of it which is great news for the club and cricket in Derbyshire."
