Derbyshire sign Jones

Derbyshire have signed seam bowler Steffan Jones on a one-year contract for the 2006 season after he was released by Northamptonshire.

The 31-year -old fast medium bowler had spent the last two seasons at Wantage Road and previously spent seven years with Somerset after graduating from Cambridge University.

Jones said: “The prospect of joining Derbyshire is hugely exciting as the club look to build a squad capable of competing with the best.

“I have had a couple of disappointing seasons at Northants and I am looking forward to doing what I do best, bowling a lot of overs, taking wickets and contributing to the team’s success."

Derbyshire's director of cricket Dave Houghton said: “Steffan is another key piece of the jigsaw as we look to build our squad for next season.

"He is an experienced bowler who will help our young seam attack.

“He likes to bowl a lot of overs and will provide a bit of penetration that we have been missing this season.

“I am sure he will make the most of this opportunity and make a significant contribution next year, on and off the field."
