Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne is 37 on Wednesday and will celebrate by receiving an honorary doctorate from Southampton Solent University at a special ceremony at the Rose Bowl.
Hampshire captain Warne has played for the county since 2000 and has taken more Test wickets than anyone with 639.
Professor Glyn Tonge, pro-chancellor and chairman of the university's board of governors, said: "As arguably the greatest bowler who has ever lived, Shane Warne is highly deserving of this honorary doctorate. His sporting success is an inspiration to all.
"We felt it was only fitting to break with tradition and confer this degree at the Rose Bowl, the home of Hampshire cricket."
