Carl Greenidge has been released from his contract with Gloucestershire early

Gloucestershire have released seamer Carl Greenidge from his contract with immediate effect.

It had been announced 10 days ago that Greenidge, who also had spells with Surrey and Northamptonshire earlier in his career, would leave at the the end of the season.

But chief executive Tom Richardson confirmed the decision to release the 30-year-old son of West Indies legend Gordon Greenidge earlier would suit both parties.

He said: “Having talked this through with Carl it was unlikely that he would play much in the next couple of months so it became clear that this was the best course of action for both him and the club.

“We would like to thank him for his contributions to the team over the past four years.

“Carl is a popular player with both the squad and the off-the-field team and he will be missed. We wish him every success.”

Greenidge added: “I have enjoyed my time with Gloucestershire and I wish the club and the team all the best for the future.”
