Sussex repeat Emirates triumph
Sussex retained the Emirates Airline Twenty20 title in some style with three convincing victories in Dubai.
The Sharks defeated Lancashire and MCC by eight and six wickets respectively before securing the crown with an 89-run triumph over the Fly Emirates XI, who had sprung a surprise by beating Lancashire in their semi-final meeting.
Luke Wells was the star performer in the tournament’s ultimate game.
Opening the batting, the 22-year-old left-hander struck 54 to set Sussex on their way to an imposing total of 172 for eight that was boosted by 42 from winter signing Chris Jordan.
Wells then returned 3-17 with his part-time off-breaks as the Fly Emirates XI stumbled to 83 all out in 17.1 overs, with Lewis Hatchett and Michael Rippons claiming two wickets apiece.
