Holland all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate has signed a two-year contract extension with Essex, which will keep him with the county up to the end of the 2010 season.

He played for his country at the 2007 World Cup and scored three LV County Championship centuries in 2007, finishing the season with a first-class average of 40.42.

The 27-year-old also claimed his best one-day figures of 5-50 against Gloucestershire Gladiators in the Friends Provident Trophy this year.

Ten Doeschate told Essex CCC: “I’m happy to sign this contract because it shows Essex still want me and I’m part of their long-term plans.

“Now my sights are set on improving once more in 2008. My first goal is to work on my bowling – which I know I’ve said before but I believe I can still make progress with it – so that I can aim to score 1000 championship runs and take 20 championship wickets next season.

“In terms of one-day cricket I was happy with my bowling last season but need to produce more with the bat next year.”

Essex chief executive David East added: “Ryan’s progress with the club has been exceptional. Year-on-year he has demonstrated his rising stature in the game.

“Ryan is clearly a pivotal member of our squad – evidenced by the performances he has given – and our commitment together until 2010 is a reflection of this.”
