The first ever play-off between the winners of the Premier League sections of the Club Cricket Conference’s Sovereign Cup and the League Cricket Conference’s President’s Trophy is taking shape.
The Middlesex County League qualified for the play-off when they defeated the Sussex League by nine runs at the picturesque Normandy CC ground in Surrey on Wednesday August 8.
The match will take place on Sunday September 16 at Kidderminster CC, starting at 11.00am, and will be 45 overs per side.
The idea of the play-off arose from discussions between the two Conferences and is being actively supported by the ECB, which is handling the match arrangements and meeting the direct costs of the teams.
Northern Rock have agreed to sponsor the match with a new trophy plus prize money for the competing teams.
Middlesex’s opponents will be known following the final of the LCC President’s Trophy to be held in the North East on Sunday September 2.
The Derbyshire Premier League will travel to meet the Northern Rock North East Premier League, who overcame the North Yorkshire South Durham League in a 25 overs-a-side match on Friday August 24.
