Rain rules at Canterbury
The Friends Life t20 South Group got off to a soggy start at Canterbury this evening when the opening game between Kent and Sussex was abandoned without a ball bowled.
The match was yesterday switched from flooded Tunbridge Wells to Kent's headquarters, but persistent rain throughout the day left the outfield and surrounds of the square extremely wet.
Umpires Rob Bailey and Tim Robinson carried out a couple of inspections but, with drizzle in the air and little chance of the ground drying out, the abandonment was announced 15 minutes before the scheduled 7pm start.
Both sides take one point and Sussex hope to get their campaign under way on Thursday against Hampshire at the PROBIZ County Ground. Kent's opening game is now on Sunday against Surrey at Beckenham.
