Glamorgan pay Maynard respects
The Friends Life t20 game between the Welsh Dragons and Worcestershire, scheduled for tomorrow at the SWALEC Stadium, has been postponed as a mark of respect to Tom Maynard and his family.
Maynard, who joined Surrey from Glamorgan in January 2011, died yesterday aged 23. His dad Matthew also played for Glamorgan and was director of cricket during Tom’s time there.
The match will now be played on Tuesday 3 July with a 6pm start.
A Glamorgan statement read: “Glamorgan Cricket would like to thank both the England & Wales Cricket Board and Worcestershire County Cricket Club for their understanding and co-operation with this matter.”
A Worcestershire statement read: “On behalf of everyone at Worcestershire CCC, we would like to send our heartfelt condolences to Tom's family, friends, and all at Glamorgan CCC and Surrey CCC, at this very difficult time.”
Tickets purchased for tomorrow will be valid for the re-arranged game. Alternatively, ticket holders can contact Glamorgan Cricket's ticket office to claim a refund.
Surrey yesterday postponed their FLt20 match with Hampshire, originally scheduled for tomorrow at the Kia Oval.
