Taylor and Gurney return to Grace Road
James Taylor and Harry Gurney will play at Grace Road for the first time since leaving Leicestershire when Nottinghamshire visit in today’s Friends Life t20 opener.
Samit Patel, yesterday named in England’s NatWest Series and NatWest International T20 squads, and Alex Hales, a member of the the latter party, will feature in the televised North Group fixture. Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann are resting between the Investec Test Series and the NatWest Series.
"We have some very strong batting options and we have a chance to make a statement against a Leicestershire side who will be full of confidence given the quality they showed last season," Newell told Nottinghamshire’s website.
"We'll lose Samit during the one-day series and Alex will play for England in the Twenty20 international at Trent Bridge. That will provide opportunities for the likes of Ben Phillips, Luke Fletcher and Graeme White, who are on the fringes at the moment but our strongest team will face Leicestershire."
Notts team: Alex Hales, Michael Lumb, Riki Wessels, Samit Patel, James Taylor, Adam Voges (captain), Chris Read (wicketkeeper), Steven Mullaney, Darren Pattinson, Harry Gurney, Andy Carter.
Abdul Razzaq, whose 18 wickets and 263 runs aided glory last year, returns as one of Leicestershire’s overseas players - this time alongside Ramnaresh Sarwan.
Matt Prior is resting after the Investec Test Series ended yesterday so Ben Brown will keep wicket for the Sharks, who have named a 12-man squad.
Sussex squad: Amjad Khan, Will Beer, Ben Brown (wkt), Joe Gatting, Murray Goodwin, Chris Liddle, Matt Machan, Chris Nash, Scott Styris, Juan Theron, Luke Wright, Michael Yardy (capt).
