Worcestershire have been dealt a blow ahead of their Friends Life t20 Midlands/Wales/West Group opener with Warwickshire after it was revealed bowler Sohail Tanvir will remain with Pakistan for their one-day international series with Sri Lanka.

Tanvir had been due to arrive at New Road in time for the county's clash at Edgbaston after featuring against Sri Lanka in the recent Twenty20 series.

But, due to an injury to Nasir Jamshed, Tanvir will now remain with his country and subsequently is ruled out of Worcestershire's opening two t20 games against Warwickshire and Gloucestershire.

Worcestershire chief executive David Leatherdale said: “Sohail has been added to Pakistan’s one-day squad and will remain in Sri Lanka until Monday.

“We are trying to organise a visa so he can fly direct to England and avoid having to go back to Pakistan first and hope he will only miss the first two Twenty20 games.”

The Bears will once again be deprived of Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott as both are part of England’s Natwest Series squad.

Captain Jim Troughton missed the defeat to Somerset with a back strain and, should that ailment sideline him once more, Varun Chopra will again assume the reins.

New Durham signing Johann Myburgh is in line for his debut when the Dynamos’ North Group campaign gets under way against Yorkshire at Headingley Carnegie.

The batting all-rounder, formerly of Hampshire, averages 29 in the sprint format and will fill the void left by England’s World Twenty20-winning captain Paul Collingwood, who is to miss the entire group stage due to a broken hand.

Dale Benkenstein’s team are also boosted by the return of Graham Onions, who is back in the fray following his four-wicket showing for England against West Indies at Edgbaston. Meanwhile, South Africa star Herschelle Gibbs is also set to make his Durham bow.

The White Rose are without England pair Tim Bresnan and Jonny Bairstow as they bid to finally make an impression on a competition they have struggled in over the years.

Andrew Gale will skipper the side while Gary Ballance will be hoping to transfer his impressive Clydesdale Bank 40 form over to the 20-over format.

Nottinghamshire have drafted in Graeme White for the visit of Derbyshire.

White could get his chance to impress after being brought in to compensate for Samit Patel’s England call-up.

The Outlaws are otherwise unchanged from the side that beat holders Leicestershire so convincingly in the opening contest.

“Home form will be important and we have a confidence in our gameplan at Trent Bridge, but it is easy to get caught cold in this format and we need to maintain high standards in the field,” director of cricket Mike Newell told Notts’ website.

The Falcons are likely to be unchanged from the side which edged past Lancashire via the Duckworth-Lewis method last night.

Leicestershire will bid to get their tournament back on track against Lancashire.

Will Jefferson’s back problem and Jigar Naik’s ankle troubles continue to keep them sidelined as the Lightning look to avenge their semi-final Super Over loss to the Foxes last season.

Lancashire will hand a late fitness to Ajmal Shahzad after he missed out against the Falcons due to a stomach strain.

Coach Peter Moores is wary of the threat posed by the Foxes, saying: “They're a good side. They've lost a couple of players, but they've still got a lot of experience with people like (Abdul) Razzaq in that side. We're looking forward to it."
