Essex are without batsman Owais Shah for their Friends Life t20 South Group top-of-the table clash with Sussex at the PROBIZ County Ground.

Shah has suffered a calf strain which is set to keep him out for two weeks, and could miss the rest of the Eagles’ FLt20 group campaign.

Essex are also minus Ravi Bopara, who is in line to play in the NatWest International T20 with West Indies at Trent Bridge today, and Alastair Cook, who is rested after leading England to a 2-0 win in the NatWest Series.

The league-leading Sharks, who like Essex have six points from four games, are again without Matt Prior as the wicketkeeper is recovering from a minor Achilles strain.

Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire, who meet today at Scarborough in another top-two contest, have the same records in the North Group as Sussex and Essex.

The Outlaws have lost Stuart Broad, Alex Hales, Samit Patel and Graeme Swann to England duty while the second-placed hosts are likewise without Jonny Bairstow and Tim Bresnan.

Scott Elstone is set to take Hales’ place, with Riki Wessels opening the batting alongside Michael Lumb.

Azeem Rafiq will continue to lead Yorkshire if Andrew Gale has not recovered from a hip injury.

Back in the South Group, Hampshire have the chance for immediate revenge over Kent, who beat them by three runs at the Ageas Bowl on Friday, when they meet at Canterbury.

The winless Royals are again missing Danny Briggs, who is on England duty, but third-placed Kent can once more call upon fellow spinner James Tredwell.
