Edgbaston's soggy summer continued when Warwickshire's Friends Life t20 match against Gloucestershire was abandoned more than five hours before the scheduled start.

Umpire Martin Saggers arrived at the ground early and called off the contest after a 1:45pm inspection following consultation with the England and Wales Cricket Board.

There were pools of water all across the outfield and, with further heavy rain forecast for Birmingham, the sensible decision was taken to abandon the match early to save spectators - and Gloucestershire's players - a wasted journey.

The postponement followed the washout of England's one-day international against Australia on Wednesday and was the sixth blank in 10 days cricket at Edgbaston in barely a month.

It was Warwickshire's third no result in four home FLt20 matches. Their local derby against Worcestershire, which was due to attract a 25,000 sell-out crowd, was also abandoned without a ball being bowled and only half an hour's play was possible against Somerset before rain halted proceedings.

Warwickshire complete their T20 group programme with a home clash against the Welsh Dragons on Sunday and will be anxious for some action to clinch their place in the quarter-finals. The Bears are alongside Worcestestershire on 11 points in the Midlands/Wales/West Group, one more than Somerset who have a game in hand.
