Gareth Andrew is confident Worcestershire will rise to the challenge in their Friends Life t20 quarter-final against Yorkshire.

The last-eight clash at Headingley Carnegie pits together two of the three teams who have yet to reach finals day.

Andrew is aware of Worcestershire’s previous struggles in the shortest form, but expects them to deliver a polished performance against the North Group winners.

Speaking to ecb.co.uk during the team’s coach journey up to Leeds, the all-rounder said: “We want to make history. We’ve played well throughout the tournament and we know we are probably the underdogs in this game, so we’ve got nothing to lose at all.

Gareth Andrew told ecb.co.uk: "We back ourselves against anyone. We just have to nail our skills and do everything we can to win."

“They look a very attacking unit, but we back ourselves against anyone. We’ve beaten Somerset already in the group stage and they’re a very strong side.

“We play as a team; we just have to nail our skills and do everything we can to win the game.”

Andrew has no doubts about how much a victory would mean to Worcestershire, who narrowly missed out on qualifying from the group stage last summer.

“It would be huge, absolutely massive,” he added.

“We’ve been working hard; we’ve been building as a club and as a unit for a couple of years now and each year we’ve been getting better and better. We should have got to the quarter-finals stage last year.

“To go one step further now and get through to finals day would be immense for the club.”

Andrew, a hard-hitting left-handed batsman and dependable right-arm seam bowler, has yet to hit top gear this season, but is simply pleased to be back on the park following knee surgery.

“I’d like to get a few more runs than I have done, but I’m very happy just to be playing again to be honest,” he explained. “It was a long winter coming back from injury. It was my left knee, but it’s all good now.

“If I can get some good performances in for the boys and get us to finals day I think everyone will be happy.”
