Australian Adam Voges got Nottinghamshire’s Friends Provident Trophy campaign off to a winning start as the Outlaws cruised past a hapless Ireland to seal their first win.
The 28-year-old hit 60 off 83 balls with former England keeper Chris Read contributing 45 as Notts posted 217 for nine. Kevin O’Brien was the pick of the Irish bowlers with 4 for 31.
But Ireland never got going in reply as veteran Mark Ealham (4-39) and England trio Ryan Sidebottom, Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann all chipped in as the home side were bowled out for 161.
Ireland got off to the perfect start when O’Brien trapped opener Bilal Shafayat leg before in the second over before uprooting Mark Wagh’s off stump as he shouldered arms.
Notts slumped to 19 for three in the ninth over when former Essex opener Will Jefferson edged Phil Eaglestone behind.
But Voges steadied the ship with the aid of Samit Patel, rotating the stroke cleverly during a fourth-wicket stand worth 88.
Voges was undone by Kyle McCallan - trapped half forward to a quicker delivery - and Patel (28) soon followed off Thinus Fourie.
Swann (21) holed out to Reinhardt Strydom before Ealham crashed Fourie into the stands in the 44th over.
Former Kent all-rounder Ealham hit 21 off 20 balls but gifted O’Brien an easy catch at long-on, Broad drove to mid-off and Read swatted a full toss to midwicket.
Though Will Porterfield twice dispatched Sidebottom to the fence in the first over of Ireland’s reply, the left-armer gained revenge by removing him for 15.
Richard Stirling was quick to follow, looping Charlie Shreck to Jefferson for a duck as Ireland slipped to 30 for two.
Veteran all-rounder Ealham made up for an earlier drop off Broad by accounting for South African Strydom packing before having O’Brien caught behind without scoring in his next over.
Andrew White and Andre Botha (21) took the score to 60, but were pegged back when the latter edged Broad behind, his first Notts wicket.
Australian Alex Cusack rallied before falling to Patel for 20, and a brilliant piece of fielding from Voges ended White’s valiant innings when he was run out for 30.
Ireland slipped closer to defeat when Ealham trapped Gary Wilson in front in the 41st over and cleaned up Fourie for four, while off-spinner Swann wrapped up proceedings by bowling Eaglestone.
