England Test captain Michael Vaughan was overshadowed by Andrew Gale as Yorkshire Carnegie defeated Friends Provident Trophy holders Durham Dynamos by five wickets at Headingley Carnegie.
Vaughan perished when well set for the fifth time in as many innings for his county and does not have any further opportunity to find form ahead of the npower Test series against New Zealand.
The 33-year-old fell for 22 moments after the dismissal of left-hander Gale, who hurtled Yorkshire towards their victory target of 186 with a high-octane 68.
Gale was particularly severe on England discard Steve Harmison, whose opening two overs cost 22 runs, and Graham Onions, punished for his insistence on bowling short.
Harmison was greeted upon his introduction in the 11th over by a powerful cut for four by Gale - who also pulled another boundary and drove for three through the covers, to register a half-century from 42 balls.
Gale then accelerated with a pulled six over deep square-leg off Onions, and three further boundaries via the same stroke in the same over, the 14th of the innings.
At that stage it appeared Yorkshire were romping to their 186-run target but Gale edged a delivery angled across him by Harmison to slip to halt the momentum.
Vaughan then prodded a short-of-a-length delivery from Onions straight to cover point without addition.
That left Anthony McGrath and Jacques Rudolph in charge of rebuilding from 94 for three and their 58-run alliance restored calm.
A late burst from Harmison, which saw Rudolph caught down the leg-side, and Adil Rashid held at second slip next ball, caused concern.
But McGrath countered with an array of improvised blows to finish unbeaten on 45 as Yorkshire avenged a narrow defeat to their north-east rivals last month with 14.2 overs to spare.
Earlier, Darren Gough claimed a trio of prize scalps after winning the toss as England duo Paul Collingwood and Phil Mustard and South African Neil McKenzie perished in quick succession.
Veteran fast bowler Gough removed Mustard and Collingwood in the space of three balls in contrasting style.
Wicketkeeper Mustard was held behind from a slash at a wide delivery from around the wicket while Collingwood, out first ball against Lancashire yesterday, was prised out via a perfectly-pitched outswinger.
Gough then made it three wickets in nine balls from the rugby stand end with another classic swing bowler's dismissal as McKenzie edged to slip from a delivery which left him in the air.
Despite a solid stand of 53 between Kyle Coetzer and captain Dale Benkenstein, Durham never recovered from a position of 81 for four.
Coetzer's classy effort of 61, including a lofted straight six off Tim Bresnan, came to an end when all-rounder Richard Pyrah forced one through his defence on his way to figures of 3-25.
That dismissal came at a time when leg-spinner Rashid was restricting the run flow from the other end.
Rashid lured Durham captain Benkenstein out of his ground for the first of his two successes and then trapped last man Neil Killeen leg before wicket as Yorkshire claimed the final four wickets for three runs in as many overs.
