Gibson sweeps the board
Durham bowler Ottis Gibson capped off an incredible season claiming the Northern Rock player of the year award at Durham’s end of season dinner.
As Gibson is currently away with the England squad in Sri Lanka, he recorded a video message for guests to enjoy at the Newcastle Gosforth Park Marriott Hotel on Monday night.
Gibson also walked away with the bowler of the year award and the player’s player of the year award.
In addition he received a special recognition award to celebrate his historic 10-wicket haul against Hampshire.
Kyle Coetzer was named young player of the year, after some exceptional performances with the bat.
Durham wicket-keeper Phil Mustard, who is also on tour with the England side, was named the fielder of the year award and the batsman of the year.
Will Gidman was named ‘A’ team player of the year. Mitchell Claydon was named the community player of the year.
Durham head coach Geoff Cook said: “After such an exceptional season there was quite a lot of competition for each of the awards but Ottis has had such a spectacular season he thoroughly deserves the Northern Rock player of the year accolade.
“Kyle has progressed superbly this season, looking composed and dangerous at the crease. It’s been a pleasure to watch him develop.
"The batsman of the year award was probably the most contested award. Both Michael [Di Venuto] and Dale [Benkenstein] pushed Phil very hard, but Phil’s explosive one day performances edged him the award.
"Will and Mitchell’s awards are reward for the unsung work done by them. Winning the ‘A’ team award is thanks for some wonderful performances all season, while Mitchell has done various charity and public appearances, despite being out injured most of the season.”
