Surrey County Cricket Club are running a course to promote both umpiring and scoring in local cricket following the success of the ECB Pitch Advisor's Scheme in the county.
Graham Cooper, who is the training officer for the West Surrey ACU&S and European Cricket Council Umpires Consultant, will become the Surrey Umpires and Scorers Advisor.
He will help run introductory clinics for clubs, leagues and schools to promote both roles, which are vital at all levels of the game.
Clinics can be designed to suit specific needs and Cooper already delivers a two-hour session aimed at those club players who have to do their stint of umpiring during a game.
Through these introductory-type clinics the aim is to encourage and inform people so that they may want to move on and take one of the recognised ACU&S courses, which are run by the various associations in Surrey.
There is a cost connected to the clinics of around £15 per hour but price may vary depending on the length and content.
Anyone interested should register with Cricket Development Manager Chris Bullen on 020 7820 5719 or via email (cbullen@surreycricket.com).
