Kent elect new chairman

Kent

Canterbury is scheduled to be developed in the near future

George Kennedy CBE was unanimously elected as chairman of Kent during the general comittee meeting on Monday night.

The former club president takes over from Carl Openshaw in the role, with Kennedy, Graham Johnson and Jo Rice elected to the committee for a three-year period and John Clark elected for one year.

Openshaw said: "I am delighted that George Kennedy has been elected to succeed me as chairman of Kent County Cricket Club.

"He has been a strong and constant supporter of the club for many years and, with his wide business experience, and love of cricket, I am confident that the leadership of the club is in very good hands."

Kennedy was a member of the club's general committee from 2002-2007 and a member of the project steering group set up to supervise and implement the plan for the new ground developments at Canterbury, something with which he is keen to stay involved.

Kennedy said: "In succeeding Carl, I hope to carry on the excellent work he started concerning the ground development at Canterbury.

"My main priority, of course, will be to assist in establishing the continuing improvement in Kent cricket and to do all I can to support the staff and players here at the club."
