Kent have confirmed that Robert Key will continue as captain for the 2007 season.

The England A skipper has impressed with his leadership during his first year in charge but has scored only 731 runs at an average of 31 in the Liverpool Victoria County Championship.

Min Patel, who deputised during Key’s absences this year, will again act as vice-captain next season.

Graham Johnson, Kent’s chairman of cricket, said: “We are delighted to confirm Rob’s appointment.

“He has made an excellent start as club captain. Like many who have watched Kent this year, Rob is eager to see Kent turn our greater competitiveness in 2006 into more tangible results in 2007.

“His commitment to the team has probably impacted on his own form.

“He is a class player and we look forward to seeing him make the most of his opportunities this winter with the England Academy and, hopefully, regain his England place.

“Min Patel has been an important part of the season in his role as vice-captain and has an appetite to be part of a successful campaign in 2007.”
