TwelfthMan: My account
Warwickshire captain and former England regular Nick Knight will commentate for Sky Sports this summer.
He will appear throughout its live domestic and international coverage this summer before joining the broadcaster full time in 2007.
This follows his recent announcement that he will retire from cricket at the end of this season and his commentary will be shared with his playing commitments.
In an international career that panned eight years, Knight played 100 One-Day Internationals and 17 Tests for England.
The opener scored 719 Test runs, including a 113 against Pakistan in 1996, and 3,637 One-Day runs, which featured five hundreds and a highest score of 125 not out.
He has appeared regularly on Sky Sports as a studio guest and commentator, working on its coverage of the National League, Twenty20 Cup and Liverpool Victoria County Championship matches, together with live overseas cricket during the winter months.
Knight said: “I’ve really enjoyed the work that I’ve been doing for Sky Sports over the past few years and I’m delighted at the prospect of working with the team.
“I’m coming to the end of my career and though my commitment and desire to Warwickshire remains as strong as ever this summer, I can’t wait to get working with Sky.”
Barney Francis, executive producer for Sky Sports, said: “As soon as we heard that Nick was retiring we wanted him in our team.
“Anyone that has followed his television work for Sky Sports will have witnessed how he has matured into an eloquent and insightful expert. I’m sure will grow ever popular with our viewers.”
Last month, Sky Sports began a new four-year arrangement with the England and Wales Cricket Board for exclusive live coverage of English cricket.
At international level, Sky Sports has exclusively live, ball-by-ball coverage of each of this summer’s England npower Test, NatWest One-Day and Twenty20 internationals against Sri Lanka and Pakistan plus two women’s One-Days against India, and two England Under-19 One-Days against India.
From the county game, Sky Sports has exclusively live coverage from each of the major competitions bringing a total of no less than 60 live matches from across the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy, Twenty20 Cup, Pro40 and Liverpool Victoria County Championship.
