Langer tips Trego for success
Somerset captain Justin Langer has tipped all-rounder Peter Trego to continue his superb form next season after finishing the 2007 campaign with an impressive set of averages.
Trego took 19 wickets at an average of just over 50 as well as scoring 596 runs at average of 29.80 in 2006 but has earned his county cap after capturing 31 wickets at 34.83 and contributing 814 runs with the bat, averaging 54.26, in 2007.
Langer though thinks the 26-year-old, who returned to the county last year after brief spells with Kent and Middlesex, can surpass his achievements in the 2008 season.
“His development has been massive, I believe he can continue to get better and better next summer.” Langer told somersetcountycc.co.uk
“I first saw Pete’s talents in 2006 where I recognised the fact that he is a very nice bloke with a lot of character.
“Combine cricket talent with a good person and the results are usually good, as we saw with his excellent season in all facets of the game.”
Trego paid tribute to Langer’s captaincy which helped Somerset win promotion in the LV County Championship and NatWest Pro40.
“Justin has been a huge help and has been a great boost for me,” Trego said.
“I have scored more runs and taken more wickets this year in addition to fielding well so I really have made an all-round contribution to the success of the side.
“I get on really with him and it is great when someone like him has got confidence in you.”
