Derbyshire cut Leek

Leek’s Highfield ground, in the Staffordshire Moorlands, will no longer host the Friends Life t20 game with Durham on June 20. This will now be played at the County Ground, Derby, with a 7pm start
Derbyshire have decided not to play at Leek this year, but may do so in future.
Leek’s Highfield ground, in the Staffordshire Moorlands, was due to host the Friends Life t20 game with Durham on June 20. This will now be played at the County Ground, Derby, with a 7pm start.
Leek staged a Clydesdale Bank 40 match versus Essex in 2010 and the FLt20 visit of Warwickshire last year.
Derbyshire will play a maximum of six days of out-ground cricket this season - all at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield -.against the Unicorns and Yorkshire in the CB40 on July 15 and 22 respectively, either side of the White Rose’s LV= County Championship visit starting on July 18.
Derbyshire chief executive Keith Loring said: “The way the fixtures have fallen has not been conducive to a match at Leek in 2012, but it remains very much in our thinking for future years.
“The two matches we have hosted at Highfield have been a success and I would like to thank everybody at Leek Cricket Club for their assistance and cooperation in staging the fixtures.
“But with only five Friends Life t20 matches in 2012 and four of our Clydesdale Bank 40 matches accounted for by television coverage and the Chesterfield Festival, our hands have been very much tied for the forthcoming campaign.
“The infrastructure that has been put in place, plus the successful match-day operations model and excellent links with Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, make it a very strong possibility that first-team county cricket will return to Leek in future years.”
