Leicestershire are considering signing a long-term replacement for overseas star RP Singh, who has been named as a standby for India’s Test squad.
Singh, 21, has played in two LV County Championship matches since signing for the club but has been missing for a fortnight after linking up with his country’s one-day international squad.
He has also been drafted onto the standby list for the Test series against Bangladesh and Foxes coach Tim Boon now believes Singh may not return to Grace Road this year.
He said: “We have been notified that RP Singh is now on standby for the Test series against Bangladesh and so his involvement there suggests to us that he may not be back to play here this summer.”
South African seamer Charl Langeveldt was signed as short-term cover for the paceman but his contract ends after this week’s match with Essex.
With injuries to England’s Stuart Broad and David Masters, the seam attack is an area Boon will be looking to address.
“With Charl due to leave at the weekend and RP not due back now until the beginning of June at the very least, we really need to look at bringing in a long-term replacement.”
