Loye lands LBM award
Lancashire batsman Mal Loye was named the LBM Player of the Year at the county’s end of season awards ceremony at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
Loye, who was leading the online and postal polls from the day they were launched, maintained a batting average of 58.90 in the Liverpool Victoria County Championship.
He amassed 1,296 runs in that competition alone making him the sixth highest run-scorer in the country.
He also averaged 53.64 in one-day cricket and had a run tally for all competitions of 2,072, which included eight centuries and 11 fifties.
His highest score was 148 not out against eventual title-winners Sussex in the Liverpool Victoria County Championship at Hove.
His prolific season also culminated in selection to the initial 30-man England squad for the ICC Champions Trophy.
On receiving his accolade Loye commented: “I am delighted and honoured to have won this award when there have been so many star performances from all the team this season.
“Big thanks go to our sponsors, staff and supporters at Old Trafford and I hope we can go that little bit further next year and win some silver.”
