Adshead steps up for Gloucs

Lv County Championship

Steve Adshead

Steve Adshead will replace Steve Snell behind the stumps for Glamorgan's visit to Bristol to take on Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire have recalled wicketkeeper Steve Adshead as they seek to end a run of three consecutive LV= County Championship Division Two defeats.

Adshead, the county's regular gloveman in one-day cricket this year, will play his first championship game of the season after being brought in for Steve Snell, who has been short on runs in recent matches.

Batsman Rob Woodman and seamer Ian Saxelby also come into contention for the visit of Glamorgan to Bristol.

Woodman will be hoping to make his second championship appearance of the summer. He has not featured since the home win over Leicestershire in early May, but has been in good form for the second team.

Saxelby's promising first full season with Gloucestershire has been disrupted by injury and illness, but the 20-year-old has produced some eye-catching performances in championship and one-day game.

Captain Alex Gidman told Gloucestershire’s website: "Unfortunately for Steve Snell, he's struggled a bit with the bat and mentally he needs a break from the pressure of first-team cricket.

"Steve Adshead has done what we asked him to do in terms of scoring runs in the seconds and to keep pushing hard for a first-team place.

"As for Woody, we asked the second-team guys to bat time and he's the one who has really taken that on board.

"Saxelby is a genuinely good bowler and it's nice to have him back in contention. He took a five-for in the seconds last week and again this week. We will have a last-minute look at the conditions before deciding what 11 to select."

Richard Dawson is again preferred to Vikram Banerjee as the main slow bowling option.

Glamorgan have recalled batsman Will Bragg to their 12-man squad in place of Ben Wright.

Wright made just 10 runs in two innings against as Glamorgan slumped to defeat by an innings and 45 runs against Kent last time out.

Left-arm spinner Dean Cosker will hope to keep his place despite going wicketless in 28 overs versus Kent.
