Chris Read has recovered quickly from a dislocated thumb to lead Notts

Nottinghamshire captain and wicketkeeper Chris Read is fit to face Durham for the top-of-the-table LV County Championship Division One showdown at the Riverside.

Read sat out Sunday’s NatWest Pro40 defeat against Somerset at Taunton but returns after making a quick recovery from a dislocated thumb.

He will lead a side that includes Will Jefferson and Bilal Shafayat, who will open the innings.

Samit Patel is unavailable for selection having been picked for England Lions and Adam Voges makes will be making his final appearance of the season before returning to Australia.

Ryan Sidebottom and Stuart Broad have been instructed to rest by the ECB, so are not available for the fixture, so Charlie Shreck and Darren Pattinson will lead the attack.

Durham head coach Geoff Cook is set to name an unchanged side.

Ben Harmison, who is named in a 12-man squad, will press for inclusion in the side that beat Kent by 43 runs at the same venue last week.

Cook is without Harmison’s brother Steve and Paul Collingwood who are rested under instructions from the ECB.
