Day one washed out at Edgbaston
Charlie Shreck faced at least a 24-hour delay in making his comeback for Nottinghamshire after an early call-off at Edgbaston on the first day of the LV= County Championship Division One fixture against Warwickshire.
Umpires Peter Willey and George Sharp needed only a cursory look at the flooded outfield before making their decision shortly before 10am.
Fast bowler Shreck was leading wicket-taker in his county’s unsuccessful bid to land last season’s Championship title in the final round of matches but has not played this summer after a knee operation and a shoulder injury.
The Cornishman is competing with Luke Fletcher and Darren Pattinson for a new-ball role at Edgbaston and former Warwickshire batsman Mark Wagh is also brought back into the squad of 13.
Injury-hit Warwickshire are considering a recall for James Anyon and a first Championship appearance for Keith Barker after the all-rounder’s success in one-day competitions.
