Charl Langeveldt produced a devastating spell of swing bowing to claim figures of 5-22 in 6.5 overs to help Derbyshire fight back in their rain-affected LV County Championship Division Two clash against Glamorgan at Cardiff.
Even though only 29.5 overs were possible on the third day, with the afternoon and evening sessions completely washed out, the South African seamer still managed to make his mark in the brief time afforded to him.
Glamorgan resumed in a healthy position on 301 for three, responding to Derbyshire's 289 all out.
But with the help of the second new ball Langeveldt, who had swapped from the River Taff to the Cathedral Road end, helped reduce the home side from 345 for four to 384 all out.
Glamorgan still had a healthy 95-run lead on first innings but it could have been much more.
In reply Derbyshire reached four without loss in two overs before rain prevented any more play after lunch.
Umpires Vanburn Holder and Richard Illingworth called play off for the day at 4.50pm.
Langeveldt had recorded poor figures of 16-2-78-0 on the second day, but the fortunes of the Cape Province bowler changed when he broke through Mark Wallace’s defences.
Only three overs later Derbyshire’s overseas player was on a hat-trick after claiming two wickets with consecutive balls.
First Langeveldt bowled Jamie Dalrymple, before Robert Croft was caught by wicketkeeper Freddie Klokker as the home side slipped to 360 for seven.
At the other end Langeveldt was being given good support by Jonathan Clare, who demonstrated his all-round talents following his 70 not out by bowling Jason Gillespie.
But it was Langeveldt who mopped up the rest of the tail.
James Harris became the third batsman to be bowled by the South African, and in his next over David Harrison gave a simple catch to Chris Rogers at mid-off as Glamorgan were bowled out 15 minutes before the lunch interval.
That meant Derbyshire’s openers Chris Rogers, standing in as captain for Rikki Clarke, and Steve Stubbings had to survive an over apiece from Harris and Croft before lunch.
