Tremlett tips tie in Surrey's favour

Chris Tremlett took 4-94 as Surrey finally managed to dismiss Derbyshire after 117 overs to pick up the Division Two points
Chris Tremlett bowled injury-hit Surrey to a pulsating 42-run victory over Derbyshire in their LV= County Championship Division Two clash at Chesterfield, despite a second century in the match from Wayne Madsen.
The South African opener made 105 but Tremlett sent down 22.5 overs on a hot, humid day to finish with 4-94 as Derbyshire were all out for 365, the third highest fourth-innings total in their history.
Andre Nel bowled with a damaged hamstring to take 3-74 and Derbyshire tail-ender Tom Lungley faced 21 balls with a suspected broken arm before he was bowled with his team 43 short of a 408 victory target.
Derbyshire had started the day needing another 272 against a Surrey attack that was already one pace bowler down with Tim Linley out with an injured right foot.
Nel was also restricted, while spinner Gareth Batty was struggling with an ankle ligament injury but Madsen and Garry Park had to work hard for their runs with only 20 coming from 17 overs in the first hour.
Park scored only five of those and he faced 149 balls for his fifty but his stand with Madsen was worth 160 in 59 overs when Tremlett finally broke through.
There were only two balls left until lunch when Park edged one that kept low to the wicketkeeper but Surrey did not have to wait as long for their next success as wickets tumbled after lunch.
Madsen was caught behind trying to cut a slow, wide long hop from Usman Afzaal, who then had Chesney Hughes brilliantly caught at slip by Rory Hamilton-Brown off the next ball.
Surrey suffered another injury blow when Batty broke the index finger on his left hand stopping a drive from Wes Durston, and the drama continued after a short break for rain.
Durston was lbw on 16 moving across his stumps to Tremlett, while in the next over Greg Smith was caught at midwicket for 34 off Nel, who was close to showing dissent earlier when an lbw shout was turned down by Nigel Cowley.
When Nel did win a leg-before appeal against Lee Goddard, Derbyshire were 284 for seven and Surrey were favourites but Robin Peterson and Lungley added 53 in 14 overs.
Peterson had moved to 40 when Arun Harinath held a diving catch at midwicket and Lungley had to leave the field when he was hit on the right forearm by a full-blooded drive from Steffan Jones.
Derbyshire needed 60 in the last hour and Lungley was soon back in the middle when Tim Groenewald edged a drive at Tremlett to second slip.
He survived for six overs and helped Jones carry Derbyshire to within 43 runs of what would have been a famous victory when he was yorked by Tremlett with 55 balls remaining and rain falling as Surrey claimed their second championship win of the season.
