Tomlinson return boosts Hampshire

Yorkshire

Hampshire welcome back James Tomlinson from injury for their LV= County Championship Division Two clash with Leicestershire at the Ageas Bowl.

Tomlinson has missed the opening two games of the season against Gloucestershire and Glamorgan after sustaining a foot problem on Hampshire’s pre-season tour of Barbados.

But the seamer returns to a 13-man squad that includes Michael Carberry, who should feature despite suffering a groin strain in the two-wicket win at the SWALEC Stadium.

“We’re expecting Carbs to play against Leicester so he’s moving on well,” manager Giles White said.

“He has rested it over the last couple of days and we will find out more as we approach the game. We’re hopeful.

“Tommo is available for the next game as well so that strengthens the squad. We are really pleased with the progress of the players that have had slight injuries and they are all back in amongst it now.”

Unbeaten Leicestershire have named an unchanged 12-man squad after Josh Cobb shook off an ankle complaint he picked up in the draw with Derbyshire last week.

Jigar Naik will be pushing for a start and West Indies international Ramnaresh Sarwan will again lead the side in place of regular captain Matthew Hoggard, who continues his rehabilitation on a dislocated finger.

Adam Ball and Daniel Bell-Drummond have returned from England Under-19 duty to boost Kent ahead of their second clash with Yorkshire this month.

The duo and Sam Northeast, who impressed for the second XI last week, will be looking to force their way into the first team at Canterbury but Azhar Mahmood continues to be missing due to his commitments in the Indian Premier League.

Yorkshire have Tim Bresnan at their disposal after the all-rounder was made available by the ECB.

Bresnan missed the reverse fixture against Kent as well as last week’s draw with Essex but the 27-year-old will boost the White Rose as they go in search of their first victory of the season.

Anthony McGrath drops out of the squad in a bid to return to form in the second XI, while Richard Pyrah continues to nurse a broken hand.

Essex will be without Tim Phillips for their encounter with Northamptonshire at Chelmsford.

Phillips has failed to recover from a back spasm he picked up against Yorkshire and, while Graham Napier’s calf strain will be monitored, seamer Charl Willoughby is in line to make his debut after recovering from a groin injury.

Northants should welcome back captain Andrew Hall as they bid to climb off the bottom of the table following their opening two defeats.

Hall played against Durham MCCU last week after recovering from a groin strain, but Luke Evans is out for two months with a back injury.

Kane Williamson arrived in Bristol today and should be available for Gloucestershire's clash with Glamorgan.

However, captain Alex Gidman will be unable to call on David Payne, who has a side injury, while Paul Muchall is being rested and his place has gone to James Fuller.

Glamorgan have to make one change from the side that was defeated by Hampshire as Will Owen replaces Jim Allenby, who has a back injury.

Robert Croft missed the clash with Jimmy Adams’ men with a similar complaint and will sit out again as Glamorgan seek to end a wretched run that has seen them lose their opening three games of the season.
