Mark Stoneman's second-innings century allowed Durham to declare against Yorkshire and set a victory target of 336 in their LV= County Championship Division One match at the Emirates Durham ICG.

The bold declaration on 275 for four came after 11 overs had been lost to rain and left the White Rose with seven overs to bat, in which they reached 17 without loss.

Stoneman struck 109 after he had been removed cheaply in the first innings and shared an opening stand of 123 with Keaton Jennings as the visiting attack struggled in a strong, cold wind.

Stoneman survived a regulation chance to wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow off Tim Bresnan on 11 and went on to reach his fifth first-class century off 141 balls, with 10 fours and a six.

The opening batsman began by cutting Ryan Sidebottom's third ball for four as the first over yielded seven runs and, after two successive golden ducks, Jennings was able to watch the first ball he faced pass harmlessly by.

He then played some attractive shots through the off side as Durham reached 84 without loss at lunch.

However, Jennings fell when he tried to cut Bresnan and edged to Bairstow and, off the final ball of the same over, Will Smith edged a low catch to Joe Root at third slip.

Having reached 50 straight after lunch, Stoneman pulled Steven Patterson for six and took advantage of Adil Rashid tending to bowl a long-hop every over.

Two pulled fours off the leg-spinner took Stoneman to 99, after which he cut a single to point and completed his century. He fell for 109, edging Liam Plunkett to first slip.

Durham obviously wanted to up the pace; Ben Stokes played aggressively, but - after being dropped at deep midwicket by Phil Jaques off Rashid, he became Plunkett's second victim when he edged to Bairstow.

After his shaky start to the season, Dale Benkenstein was untroubled in reaching 50 off 81 balls and he and Paul Collingwood had put on 68 when the rain arrived at 5pm.

The Durham captain was on 36 and would have wanted to add at least 20 more runs, but the possibility of rain in the morning may have forced his hand.

However, Collingwood's hopes of parting Root and Adam Lyth were thwarted, despite two good lbw appeals from Graham Onions, as Yorkshire finished the day trailing by 319 runs.
