Fernando set for Worcestershire bow

Sri Lanka seamer Dilhara Fernando is set to boost Worcestershire’s promotion push to Division One of the LV County Championship when he makes his debut against Glamorgan at the SWALEC Stadium.

Fernando, who has signed on a short-term deal until the end of the season, replaces previous overseas player Imran Arif in the county’s depleted bowling line-up with Simon Jones (knee) and Kabir Ali (back) ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

Veteran batsman Graeme Hick is also missing as he aims to recover from an elbow injury before his impending retirement at the end of the month.

Australian seamer Matt Mason travels to Cardiff as 12th man but will only play in an emergency as he is still recovering from a shoulder muscle tear.

Former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie is missing for Glamorgan having struggled with a hamstring injury in recent weeks.

Gillespie played in the NatWest Pro40 victory over Derbyshire yesterday but is not fit enough to feature in the four-day match and joins young seamer James Harris on the sidelines.

However, slow left-arm bowler Dean Cosker is available again and is set to be a straight replacement for Gillespie.
