A career-best innings of 70 for Jonathan Clare helped Derbyshire to 289 all out before Glamorgan responded with 87 for one on the first day of the LV County Championship Division Two match at Cardiff.
After winning the toss Derbyshire made a steady start as stand-in skipper Chris Rogers – deputising for the injured Rikki Clarke – and Steve Stubbings took the visitors to 47 without loss.
But the breakthrough came in the 13th over when Stubbings was bowled by David Harrison via an inside edge.
And from 56 for one Derbyshire slumped to 66 for three in the space of four overs.
First John Sadler was caught sharply at first slip by Robert Croft to give James Harris his first wicket of the season and Harris broke through again to have Dominic Telo snaffled at second slip by Michael Powell, his 100th catch for Glamorgan.
But Rogers, who had been positive throughout the morning session, reached his 50 from 74 balls as he guided Derbyshire to lunch at 99 for three.
The Derbyshire recovery continued after lunch with Dan Birch planting Croft for a straight six before the visitors were further reduced from 122 for three to 126 for five with David Harrison breaking through twice in as many overs.
First Rogers edged behind where Mark Wallace took a good catch diving to his left and the wicketkeeper was again in the action to help remove Telo.
Birch had looked well set until he played a poor shot off Croft to leave his side 156 for six. Attempting to hit Croft back over his head the left-hander was caught off a thick outside edge at backward point.
Clare did a fine job guiding the tail to a more than competitive first-innings score. He put on 50 with Graham Wagg before Croft had the left-arm seamer brilliantly caught by Jamie Dalrymple diving full stretch to his left at midwicket.
Jake Needham became Croft’s 900th first-class victim for Glamorgan going leg before attempting to sweep, before Langeveldt clubbed 40 off just 19 balls in a 70-run partnership in five overs to claim Derbyshire a second batting point.
In reply Glamorgan made a useful start through Gareth Rees and Matthew Wood.
But Wood was trapped leg before by Wagg to leave the home side 39 for one before Rees and David Hemp avoided any more scares before the close.
