Harris set for Surrey bow

Ryan Harris

Ryan Harris is expected to make his Surrey debut at Cardiff after signing a short-term deal earlier this week

Surrey are set to hand a debut to new signing Ryan Harris when they travel to face Glamorgan in the LV= County Championship Division Two clash at Cardiff.

The 29-year-old Australian all-rounder has initially signed to play in the next three Championship games and looks certain display despite only arriving in the UK on Thursday.

Captain Mark Butcher has also been named in the squad for the first time in over year after chronic knee trouble. The former England batsman’s trouble has eased over the last few days and could play, although Michael Brown, who returns to the top of Surrey’s order after missing the recent Twenty20 Cup campaign, is on standby to captain should Butcher not make it.

Youngsters Stuart Meaker and Jade Dernbach are named in the squad alongside experienced players such as Mark Ramprakash, Uzman Afzaal and Jonathan Batty.

Professional cricket manager Chris Adams is keen for his side to switch their focus back into four-day mode.

"We’re going to play twelve days out of the next fourteen, so it’s a tough ask for the boys, but that’s what we have to deal with," Adams told the club’s website.

"I think that a couple of wins during this road trip will be a reasonable ask from us.

"One-day and four-day cricket are very different and compared to what we’ve been playing recently, this game will be a war of attrition that we need to win.

"We have to make sure we stick to the process, be patient, be disciplined and come hard at Glamorgan, but in the right manner."

Glamorgan will welcome back Adam Shantry and William Bragg into their squad as they look to put further space between themselves and Surrey in the table.

Bowler Shantry and batsman Bragg missed the majority of the recent Twenty20 campaign, but come back into the fray for the four day match at the SWALEC Stadium.
