Gough returns to Yorkshire squad

Darren Gough last played in the championship in the draw against Surrey

Relegation-threatened Yorkshire have included captain Darren Gough in their squad for the crucial Roses clash against Lancashire at Old Trafford.

Gough, who has been used sparingly during his last season in professional cricket, could lead the side instead of Anthony McGrath who has been in charge in his absence.

All-rounder Tim Bresnan could also earn a recall after being rested in the defeat to Hampshire which saw Yorkshire drop into the relegation zone.

The White Rose are without former England Test captain Michael Vaughan who is taking a short break from the game but expects to be back in championship action before the end of the season.

Stuart Law will lead out the Lancashire side after electing to sit out Sunday’s NatWest Pro40 match against Worcestershire to recover from a bruised rib.

Law sustained the injury after being hit by Jason Lewry in the LV County Championship fixture against Sussex at Old Trafford last week.

All-rounder Tom Smith is the only change to the 12-man squad that was named to face Sussex, replacing Kyle Hogg

Smith has recently returned to the Lancashire ranks after a six-week loan spell at Leicestershire, during which he had considerable personal success.
