Weather wins again at Ageas Bowl
The second day of the LV= County Championship Division Two match between Hampshire and Derbyshire followed the first in being washed out by heavy overnight rain and then persistent drizzle.
Three pitch inspections at The Ageas Bowl delayed the inevitable before any chance of starting was finally abandoned at 2.30pm.
Unbeaten Division Two leaders Derbyshire now have only two days remaining in a bid to add Hampshire to Northamptonshire and Glamorgan on their list of early-season victims.
Hampshire were left to count the statistical cost of another day lost to the exceptional weather.
In the whole of last season, all 16 first-class matches, they lost a little more than 46 hours to rain and bad light. With this latest setback, they have now lost more than that at the start of their fifth fixture.
The rain also delayed the possible debut of Bilal Shafayat, the former Nottinghamshire and England Under-19 batsman, who has joined Hampshire on a short-term contract.
Shafayat, top scorer in a second XI fixture for Hampshire against Essex last week, has been signed to cover the absence of Michael Carberry, who is playing for England Lions against the touring West Indies.
