Paul Collingwood's first century in the LV= County Championship since June 2011 was the highlight of the final day of Durham's drawn Division One match against relegation-threatened Lancashire at Aigburth.

The Durham skipper hit 11 fours in making an impressive 114 and his 190-ball effort was chiefly responsible for ensuring that the visitors took a 164-run first-innings lead.

Durham were eventually dismissed for 416, their highest total of the season, but rain returned to prevent Lancashire's batsmen having to face an awkward 32 overs in their second innings against an attack led by the in-form Graham Onions.

However, that was the end of the good news for the Old Trafford side, who took seven points from the game and will most probably need to win their last two matches to avoid playing their four-day cricket in Division Two next season. Durham took 10 points from the match and their fears of relegation are a distant memory.

The final day of Durham's drawn LV= County Championship clash with Lancashire was lit up by Paul Collingwood, who struck 114

Lancashire's hopes of taking a full haul of bowling bonus points from the game were boosted early in the morning session when Simon Kerrigan struck twice in four overs to remove both Michael Richardson and Phil Mustard.

Richardson had added two to his overnight score of 39 when he was caught by Tom Smith at second slip off a delivery which both turned and bounced sharply. Mustard was pouched in the leg trap by Ashwell Prince for only five.

Lancashire's hopes of making further inroads were blocked by the broad bat of Collingwood and the obduracy of Scott Borthwick. The pair added 148 in 42 overs for the seventh wicket, although both men were dropped in the course of their partnership.

Borthwick reached his fifty off 108 balls and was eventually dismissed for 60 when he drove Gary Keedy straight to Glen Chapple at mid-off. Collingwood, having brought up his century with a single off Keedy, was bowled by Steven Croft when his attempted cut only diverted the ball onto his stumps.

Part-time off-spinner Croft then claimed the last two wickets to finish with 3-33 off 8.2 overs. Callum Thorp was bowled for a hard-hit 25 and last man Chris Rushworth holed out for seven when his lofted drive only found Prince at long-on.

Kerrigan returned figures of 4-128 in 44 overs while Keedy finished with 3-101 off 31.

Both spinners found it hard going at times on an Aigburth pitch which saw only a little in excess of two days' cricket and it was appropriate when rain, which had spoiled so much of the match, also brought the game to a premature conclusion.
