Yorkshire are without Australia seamer Mitchell Starc, who must temporarily return to his homeland, for the LV= County Championship Division Two game with Gloucestershire at Bristol.

The White Rose signed the 22-year-old left-armer last week, subject to red tape, and hoped he would make his debut tomorrow.

However, when Starc arrived at Heathrow on Saturday he was detained for more than four hours due to a problem with his visa.

Starc has joined up with Yorkshire, but this afternoon learned he must go home to complete the necessary visa documentation.

A Yorkshire statement read: “The problem was as a result of the incorrect advice given to him in Australia.

“The necessary paperwork from Yorkshire County Cricket Club is in order and accepted by the UK Border Agency, but unfortunately is insufficient to allow Mitchell to fulfil the full visa requirement.

“We are hoping this matter can be resolved quickly in Australia and that he will return as soon as possible.”

Yorkshire will at least have England seamer Tim Bresnan available after it was decided he would benefit from an extra game prior to the Investec Test series with West Indies.

The White Rose will have to make do without Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root, who are on England Lions duty this week, and Richard Pyrah, who is recovering from a broken hand, while Ajmal Shahzad has joined Lancashire on loan for the rest of the season.

Adam Lyth and Gerard Brophy, who is set to keep wicket, come into Yorkshire’s squad.

Gloucestershire have captain Alex Gidman available after the all-rounder missed last week’s draw with Derbyshire because of a back problem.

David Payne and James Fuller are still missing with side and arm injuries respectively. Dan Housego is fit after a shoulder setback, but must wait for a recall.

Seamer Graeme McCarter, who took three wickets on debut yesterday in the Clydesdale Bank 40 victory over Middlesex, has been named in the hosts’ squad.

Leicestershire have received a triple boost ahead of the visit of Northamptonshire to Grace Road.

Captain Matthew Hoggard and Nathan Buck are in contention to play while new loan signing Richie Berrington has also been named in a 14-man squad.

Will Jefferson and Paul Dixey are not yet fit to return and Jigar Naik is sidelined with an ankle ligament injury sustained at Lancashire on Sunday in the CB40 loss.

Buck played in that game and, along with Hoggard and Berrington, joins the XI on duty in last week’s championship defeat to Yorkshire.

Northants are without England Lion Jack Brooks and Luke Evans, who has a back problem. Chaminda Vaas is set to return after being rested in last week’s defeat of Hampshire. Fellow seamer Sam Sweeney is also in contention.

Hampshire are missing Michael Carberry - another member of the Lions squad - for the visit of leaders Derbyshire to the Ageas Bowl, but welcome back a trio of influential players.

Jimmy Adams will lead the side, having missed the club’s last three games due to personal reasons, while seam bowlers Kabir Ali and James Tomlinson also return after proving their fitness in the second XI. Hamza Riazuddin and David Griffiths drop out of the squad.

Derbyshire are set to be unchanged from last week’s game, with seamer Mark Footitt on standby.

Kent are without in-form seamer Matt Coles, who has been rewarded for 27 competitive wickets this season with a Lions call, for the trip to face Essex at Chelmsford.

Kent academy scholars Ivan Thomas and Fabian Cowdrey are part of the visitors’ squad and could make their first-class debuts.

Essex can again call on England batsmen Alastair Cook and Ravi Bopara but are still without Tim Phillips and Graham Napier, who are respectively recovering from back spasms and a calf strain.

Adam Wheater, who missed last week’s draw with Glamorgan due to a sickness bug, is in the hosts’ party.
