Adam Lyth is set to make his long-awaited LV County Championship debut as a depleted Yorkshire strive to continue their unbeaten start to the Division One campaign at Durham.
Lyth, 20, is a straight swap for Michael Vaughan, who will lead England out at Lord’s against New Zealand on Thursday.
The England Under-19 batsman has struggled in Friends Provident Trophy matches this season, but he has made two centuries in Second XI cricket, including an impressive 127 against Nottinghamshire Second XI at Stamford Bridge last week.
Fast bowler Ben Sanderson is also set for a first championship game in place of another England player, Matthew Hoggard.
Sanderson also starred against Notts' second-string, returning match figures of 10-81.
Deon Kruis replaces Morne Morkel, who has returned to South Africa for treatment on his hamstring injury.
Ajmal Shahzad also has hamstring problems and will be out for three to six weeks.
But leg-spinner Adil Rashid returns to the Yorkshire side after a strong showing for England Lions in the warm-up match against the Black Caps.
Captain Dale Benkenstein and Neil McKenzie both return to a Durham squad searching for the first championship win of the season.
Benkenstein has not featured since May 5 after returning to see his pregnant wife in South Africa, while McKenzie also missed the county’s last championship game as he went back to his homeland for a wedding.
They will add steel to a Durham batting line-up that twice collapsed to Lancashire in a humiliating defeat.
Garry Park has been dropped despite famously snaring Andrew Flintoff, his first wicket in championship cricket, but Callum Thorp comes into the squad for the first time this season.
Liam Plunkett is still out with a side strain and Paul Collingwood plays for England against New Zealand at Lord’s.
Durham’s fast bowling department is boosted by Graham Onions, who was away on England Lions duty at the Rose Bowl.
