Maddy makes first start

Darren Maddy has arrived at Warwickshire from Leicestershire

Former England batsman Darren Maddy will make his LV County Championship debut for Warwickshire against Lancashire at Edgbaston after his winter move from Leicestershire.

England spinner Ashley Giles will be missing after suffering further hip problems, but Warwickshire include quick bowler Naqaash Tahir after an injury-disrupted 2006 season.

South Africa seamer Dale Steyn will make his first championship appearance for Warwickshire but Sri Lanka wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara is still involved in the World Cup.

Batsman Paul Horton will bat at number five for Lancashire in the Division One clash.

Lancashire have selected a squad of 12 but will be without overseas players Muttiah Muralitharan and Brad Hodge, who are representing Sri Lanka and Australia respectively at the World Cup in the Caribbean.

All-rounder Andrew Flintoff and pace bowlers James Anderson and Sajid Mahmood are on England duty but England A seamer Tom Smith is included alongside Oliver Newby.

Mark Chilton captains the side, who finished second in the championship last year.
