Lord's falls foul of washout
Rain and persistent bad light prevented any play on the opening day of Middlesex’s LV= County Championship game against Worcestershire at Lord’s.
Overnight rain removed any chance of a prompt start, but conditions improved sufficiently for umpires Nigel Cowley and Jeremy Lloyds to decide that the game could get under way at 11.45am.
Yet the weather deteriorated again and although there was never more than a steady drizzle, the umpires called play off at 4.50pm. Due to restrictions on the use of the Lord’s floodlights, they cannot be switched on for county games.
