Rain fell constantly at the Swalec Stadium

The first day of Glamorgan’s LV County Championship Division Two clash against Essex at the Swalec Stadium was abandoned without a ball bowled.

Despite four inspections by the umpires, Allan Jones and John Steele, play was called off at 3.50pm because of wet run-ups at the River Taff end of the ground.

The teams will reconvene tomorrow, when they will hope for an early start and the chance to make up for lost time.
