Andre Adams completed a five-wicket haul but only 21 overs of play were possible on day two of the LV= County Championship clash between Nottinghamshire and Lancashire at a rainy Trent Bridge.

Thanks to the drainage system, hard work of the groundstaff and floodlights, play was able to start just 40 minutes late - albeit under gloomy skies.

But, after an early, rain-induced break for lunch, a second downpour soon after the resumption proved terminal, ending the action at 1:45pm.

During the play that was possible, Lancashire carried their overnight score from 203 for six to 272 for nine as their tailed wagged.

Andre Adams

Notts seamer Andre Adams is congratulated after completing his third five-wicket haul of the season with the dismissal of dangerman Ashwell Prince

Ashwell Prince missed out on a second championship century of the season when he was seventh out for 80 with the total on 243.

He drove at Adams, who claimed 5-104, but succeeded only in edging through to Alex Hales at first slip, giving the bowler his 600th career first-class wicket and his third five-for of the season.

Four runs later, Glen Chapple, on 24, was castled by Paul Franks as the batsman played off the back foot, only to see the ball keep low.

It was three wickets for the addition of just eight runs when Ajmal Shahzad was next to go, wafting at Harry Gurney to give Chris Read a simple catch behind the wicket.

At that point, Nottinghamshire would have hoped to wrap the innings up quickly, but Kyle Hogg and Simon Kerrigan, both unbeaten on nine, had other ideas with an unbroken last-wicket stand of 21, in between the showers.
