Another washout at Trent Bridge
Title-chasing Nottinghamshire encountered more frustration in their LV= County Championship clash with Surrey as play was washed out for a second consecutive day.
Heavy overnight rain followed by more morning showers left the Trent Bridge outfield sodden and, although the groundstaff worked tirelessly in a bid to get the action under way, play was eventually abandoned for the day at 3pm after a second inspection.
Notts have yet to register a point in the match while Surrey have taken just one with the hosts on 178 for five in their first innings. Chris Read stands unbeaten on 49 while sixth-wicket partner Adam Voges has 38.
A draw is now almost a certainty unless the two captains can manufacture a run chase on the fourth and final day with the aid of innings forfeits.
Second-placed Notts’ angst has been heightened by the fact leaders Warwickshire’s game with Somerset at Taunton has progressed steadily, with the Bears in good shape to push for victory tomorrow.
